A partnership between the Fraunhofer IIS/EAS and the start-up GreenPocket has won funding under Fraunhofer's "TechBridge" initiative. As one of four Fraunhofer start-up tandems, they were able to convince the jury to finance their project. The focus of their partnership is on providing energy data through user-friendly applications.
TechBridge's mission is to bring start-ups and Fraunhofer Institutes together in order to launch joint projects. In the process, the participating start-ups have the opportunity to develop and optimize their ideas more quickly with the help of the technology and expertise of the Fraunhofer Institutes. At the same time, the Fraunhofer Institutes involved are able to contribute their expertise in innovative business models and use cases.
After multiple competition rounds as part of this program, the joint project idea of the Fraunhofer IIS/EAS and the start-up GreenPocket emerged as a winner. The team was able to win over the jury at an early stage under the category of "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning". After a presentation of their initial joint work in summer 2018, the jury singled them out for further support in order to develop their cooperative project further.
GreenPocket develops energy management and visualization software, and was named as one of the top 20 tech start-ups of 2018 at TECH-START-UP in Cologne. The aim of the partnership with the Fraunhofer IIS/EAS is to intelligently evaluate a broad range of energy data and influence variables so that individual users can easily monitor their consumption and thus save money.
