Dresden: On March 1, 2023, Professor Peter Schneider, who has been head of the Fraunhofer IIS Division Engineering of Adaptive Systems EAS in Dresden since 2011, became Professor of Design Methodology for Adaptive Microelectronic Systems at the Institute of Electromechanical and Electronic Design (IFTE) of Technische Universität Dresden (TUD). His appointment will strengthen the reciprocal transfer of knowledge and technology between non-university research and teaching.
Peter Schneider, who not only completed his degree at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) but also earned his doctorate there in 2010, is a renowned expert on modeling and simulation in the development of complex electronic systems. His research focuses on adaptive systems that can recognize – and adapt to – changes in their environment or in its structure. Typical areas of application include flexible manufacturing processes in industrial automation or autonomous driving.
The rector of the university, Professor Ursula M. Staudinger, believes that Schneider’s appointment is a great opportunity to boost Saxony’s quality as a leading center for microelectronics: “TU Dresden has a long tradition of collaboration with non-university research institutions, as seen with the DRESDEN-concept Science and Innovation Campus. Peter Schneider’s appointment will serve to further consolidate the field of microelectronics as a key research interest at TU Dresden.”
In his role as head of Fraunhofer IIS Division EAS – which he continues to hold – Schneider was also involved in the preparation and content design of the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD), the world’s leading research alliance for applications and systems in the field of micro and nanoelectronics. At present, the division is pushing ahead with setting up an application and test center for artificial intelligence at EAS, the focal point for the development of AI solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
